. Congratulations to Kathie and Clare Carter on their inner city mission call.
. We will miss Stephanie Sitze. Good luck to you and your family.
. Faye Hunt will be moving soon. She and her dear husband are moving to

. Debbie Mills has been called to be the 2nd. councilor, with Shannon Redd 1st.

. Next week is General Conference. With Saturday and Sunday sessions.
. Easter is on the 12th. Skyler Summers will be speaking after returning from
his mission in England.
. Brother Wayman will be going through some Chemo treatments. Our prayers
are with him.
Sister Wayman had cataract surgery and is seeing much better.
. Hunter Central Stake is presenting "Beauty and the Beast". Tickets are
available Tues and Thurs and the Stake Center for $3.50. An additional
performance has been added that children may attend, check for that day.

The Temple
The Temple was the subject of the combined Relief Society and Priesthood meeting on Sunday. The Temple is where we can go to do work for those who have passed on. It is a place where we can recieve personal revelation. It is a place of peace from the outside world. It is a place where we are equal. It is the Lords house.
Our garments are an outward expression of a holy commitment. They are a protection. They are to be worn and treated with respect. They are not to be altered, tucked or rolled in any way. Our dress should be worn so that the garment and our bodies are covered easily. The garment should be worn at all appropiate times. Only at activities when it is impossible should they not be worn.
The Temple is here for us to use and attend often and make time for. To bring us closer to our Heaven Father.

--We will be having a RS board meeting for those who have callings in RS on Tuesday January 20th invitations have been given out for those who need to attend.
--We have some corrections for the cookbook. Sister Redd’s Big Batch Sugar cookies cross out ½ c. shortening and it just needs 1 ½ lbs. Butter or shortening. Also, Sister Latham’s toffee recipe needs 1 pound of butter. Also, Sister Carter’s BBQ chicken needs 1 Tbls. Chili powder. Thanks for all the yummy recipes.

--We have adjusted the Visiting Teaching for some companionships. We want everyone to know these changes are not haphazard they have been prayed about and pondered for many, many hours. We try to keep track of schedules and put you with people that will be able to mesh, but remember visiting teaching is an important calling from the Lord to watch over these wonderful sisters, each needs a hand in their lives- we cannot expect them to call us at times of need to help if we don’t have a relationship with them. Please be diligent!
--Ward Conference will be January 11th and we will be having a special combined priesthood and RS that day.

--Please check you cookbook and see if any of your recipes need fixing or adjusting and we will print a sheet that fixes all of them. Contact Steph.

--Primary Activity will be Saturday January 3rd for all primary children to meet their new teachers.

Elder Oaks:
The ordinance of the sacrament makes the sacrament meeting the most sacred and important meeting in the Church. It is the only Sabbath meeting the entire family can attend together. Its content in addition to the sacrament should always be planned and presented to focus our attention on the Atonement and teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ

The perfect role model for use of the holy priesthood is our Savior, Jesus Christ. He ministered with love, compassion, and charity. His life was a matchless example of humility and power. I delight in the Lord’s mercies and miracles. I know that His tender mercies and His miracles, large and small, are real. They come in His way and on His timetable... Jesus’s disciples on the Sea of Galilee had to toil in rowing against a contrary wind all through the night before Jesus finally came to their aid. Sister Lathum
Hope was born in Monroe, Utah but
Raised in Kanosh. She has 5 children and 26 grand & great-grand children.
She enjoys bowling, dancing, reading, geneology, and sewing. She spent 15 years in primary and loved it, but her favorite thing is to spend time with her family.
Her favorite food ice cream!

Stake Conference

During the Saturday evening session of Conference the focus was on tithing. President Porter says 95% of people who do not have current recommends are not paying a full tithe. We are many of us facing tough economic times and we all will be blessed by paying a full tithe. All the blessings of the temple can be ours as we participate in this law. Do we trust God and his mercy to make it all work out. Do we exercize faith in his promise given through the prophet Malachi- He will open the windows of Heaven and rebuke the devouer for our sakes. Do we pay our tithing first thing before anything else or do we wait and see if there's enough at the end. There can always be excuses, but we must not give up our blessings from the Lord for our lack of faith in this law.

Our Lesson today is by- Elder Uchtdorf-"Have we not great reason to rejoice?"
When we think of all the difficulties we face in life as we turn to the gospel of Jesus Christ we find many ways and reasons to rejoice in the glory this life has to offer. Elder Uchtdorf says, "
“The gospel of Jesus Christ is good news, glad tidings, and much more. It is the message of salvation as repeatedly announced by Jesus Christ and His apostles and prophets. It is my firm belief that all truth and light originating with God is embraced in the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
It is our job to follow the principles of the gospel and live the gospel each day until the end of our lives. "“Enduring to the end implies “patient continuance in well doing” (Romans 2:7), striving to keep the commandments (see 2 Nephi 31:10), and doing the works of righteousness (see D&C 59:23). Our lesson this week was by Sister Summers, " The Everlasting Priesthood" in the J.S. manual.
Sister Summers reminded us that everything we have in the gospel is a result of the eternal nature of the priesthood. It never varies and never changes. Can you even think of all the ways the priesthood has blessed your life. There are so many ordinances, blessings, and gospel truths revealed to us through the power of the priesthood. The priesthood is God's power and authority to act upon this earth. We are grateful for all the priethood brings to each of us in the gospel.

This week we studied lesson #7 on Baptism and the Gift of the Holy Ghost from the Joseph Smith manual given by Sis. Taggart.
Joseph Smith said, "Baptism is a sign to God, to angels, and to heaven that we do the will of God, and there is no other way beneath the heavens whereby God hath ordained for man to come to Him to be saved, and enter into the kingdom of God, except faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, and baptism for the remission of sins, and any other course is in vain; then you have the promise of the gift of the Holy Ghost."
We spoke of baptism being the gate by which we can enter and the ultimate goal is that of being able to return back into our Heavenly Father's presence once more.

Bishop Baker gave us our lesson for a combined 5th Sunday. It was focused on the World Wide Leadership Training given this past February. All adult members of the church were encouraged to attend. This is now available online at LDS.org for viewing or reading and we are highly encouraged to do so.
The meeting focused on the family and how we can make our families and the church help support families in growing in the gospel. The leaders of the church has tried to encourage all wards and stakes to cut back on the number of meetings being held that take time away from the family. Thus we have combined and eliminated many things in the church, but we are encouraged to not just take that time and fill it with nonessential business, but to use that time to teach our families the gospel and build relationships with them. We are also encouraged to be kind and loving towards each member not to judge their family situations but to lend fellowship and encouragement to everyone.

We had a fabulous lesson by Sister Nielson this week. It was a talk by Elder Spencer J. Condie of the seventy entitled, "Claim the Exceeding Great Promised Blessings."
-"Important components of faith are patience, long-suffering, and enduring to the end. The Apostle Paul recounts the faith of Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and Sara, concluding that “these all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth” (see Hebrews 11:4–13). These faithful Saints knew that this earth life was a journey, not their final destination."
--We all have times in our lives where we are asked to excercize faith in God's plan for us and trust that his promises will come and be fulfilled. Sometimes we are asked to wait for a short time and sometimes a long time. But as we wait with patience and faith those blessings come in this life and the next.

Our lesson was by Sister Summers on the mission of John the Baptisit.
There are three ways that John the Baptist fulfilled his mission of preparing the way for the Savior to come.
1- He was given as the forerunner to the Savior Jesus Christ.
2- His was the mission of baptizing the Lamb of God.
3- He was the only legal adminstrator of the priesthood of Aaron left upon this earth.

"Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist."

-John fullfilled his grand purpose and gave his life as a martyr of the kindgom.

Our lesson today was from the Joseph Smith Manual #5 on Repentence. Sister Taggart talked about the process of coming to the Lord with a repentant heart. We discussed what it entails to truly repent: to have an awareness of our mistake, to express regret for the sin we've committed, to have a desire to change and a heart broken, a spirit contrite. The blessings of repenting are great not only do we receive forgivness, but the angels of Heaven rejoice with us in coming to our Savior. We are reminded of the parable of the Prodigal Son when the son went off and squandered his inheritance- he came to a repentant heart and went back to his father in humility. His father instead of showing anger came forth and showed great love, just like our Heavenly Father will show to us as we come to Him with a repentant heart. Let us go forward in faith trusting in the Lord and His ways so we can sit down with Him in the Kingdom of God.

Christy Johnson gave a wonderful lesson on Gratitude for this month.
--President Hinckley gave us a lesson on the 6 Be's of how to live our lives and the
first one he mentioned was Be Thankful!
--All of us has room to show more gratitude in our lives. Part of being thankful
is also having a positive attitude. So How can we have a more positive attitude
in life: We can look for that silver lining in all things that happen- look for the
blessings within the adversities, we can have a sense of humor about things,
we can look around and see and count all the blessings we have in life.
--Each of us has an opportunity to choose to see the good that is in our lives and
show more thankfulness for that good we see all around!

Our Lesson today was, "Mothers who Know" a talk by Sister Julie B Beck from last October's conference addresses.
--If we think of some of the influential men in the world's history we may think of the Savior, or even prophets like Jospeh Smith & President Hinckley. We may think of political leaders like Abraham Lincolon or George Washington. We must remember each of them learned their life's lessons from their mothers.
--Some of the wonderful characteristics of mothers are they are: prayerful, nuturing, concerned, teachers, and homemakers.
--Mothers who know are willing to bear children and love and nurture them. We are willing to accept and keep sacred covenants. Mothers who know are leaders and partners in the home and in the church.
-- Mothers who know do less- they work on spending more time together and enjoying family life. They do not try to do all and be all to all people.
-- Mothers who know bear testimony of the Savior in good times and in bad. They are willing to stand strong and immovable in the ways of truth and righteousness!

Lesson- February 17th

This lesson # 4 in Joseph Smith manual on "The Book of Mormon the Keystone of our Religion" given by Sister Summers.
--The Angel Moroni appeared to the boy Joseph Smith in 1823 to tell him of a book deposited in a nearby hill. The book contained a record of an ancient people and the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. That night changed Joseph's life forever as it has well many of ours.
--" I told the brethern that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth and the keystone of our religion, and that a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts than any other book."
--One of the purposes of the Book of Mormon is stated in the Introduction written by the hand of Moroni, "to the Convincing of the Jew and the Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God..."
--A Lesson from the lost 116 pages of the Book Of Mormon. We discussed what personal lessons we could learn from Martin Harris loosing the 116 pages of the book of Lehi. We learned that the purposes of God cannot be thwarted. We learned the Lord's hand is in this work and He will ensure that it goes forward. We learn that we should listen to and accept the counsel of the Lord and not second guess the answers he gives to us. We learned not to let man influence us away from the will of the Lord.

Sister Lydia Taggart gave us a lesson from the Joseph Smith book #3-
Jesus Christ, the Divine Redeemer of the World.
Sister Taggart helped us understand the Savior's part in the plan of salvation. That through his atonement we can repent and return to live with our Heavenly Father again. He suffered our pains, our infirmities, and all that we go through in our lives that He may better understand and support us in our trials.
--The class discussed ways we can become more like the Savior and follow His example:
through service, love, charity, nonjudgemental, obedience, kindess, willing to accept callings and many more.

We had a wonderful lesson by our new teacher Sister Jeanine Jeppson.
--The Lesson was a talk by the presiding bishop Richard C. Edgley on "Enduring Together"
--We are blessed to live in a church where we are strenghthened and served by one another. Together we are able to hold up the hands that hang down and strengthen the feebles knees.
--We are commanded to bear one another's burdens that they may be light.
--As we serve and our faith is tested by times of adversity we can draw nearer to our Savior and strive to be more like He is.
--Remember, " The Lord's organizqation is fully adequate to know and care for those with even the most dire emotional and spiritual needs."
--We can be an instrument in the Lord's hands to be that strength to those around us when their times of trial comes.

Sister Summers gave a beautiful lesson from the prophet Jospeh Smith on God the Eternal Father.
--Because of the first vision the prophet Joseph Smith was able to learn the true nature of God, our Heavenly Father.
--" While one portion of the human race is judging and condeming the other without mercy, the Great Parent of the universe looks upon the whole of the human family with a fatherly care and paternal regard..."
-- God loves each on of us with the kind of love of a parent to a child- he is not an abstract being that is incomprehensible he is our loving father.
--The scriptures teach " That this is life eternal that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent." John 17:3
--Through the first vision we know the separateness of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost and their roles in the plan of salvation.

This is Mae! Little Mae and her mom Whitney are glad to be home together. It has been requested by her doctors (for her own saftey) to stay in as much as possible and keep out of this awful air. This year we have the opportunity to study the teachings of the prophet Joseph Smith.
-This lesson we learned about the life of Brother Joseph.
-We know the effect of the First Vision on the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
--Of Joseph Smith the prophet John Taylor said, "Joseph Smith, the Prophet and Seer of the Lord, has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it."
--Think of all that had been accomplished during his short life. The restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ, the translation and printing of the Book of Mormon and the work on other scriptures, the restoration of the priesthood, building temples, bringing forth all the ordiances of the temples and work for the dead, founding a great city, and preparing the saints for the trials ahead. Indeed we all can "Praise the Man" who communed with Jehovah!

--We all have a responsibility and the blessing of Sharing the gospel. We are asked to lengthen our stride to reach out and do a little bit more.
--There are many blessings that come in sharing the gospel to ourselves: our sins are more readily forgiven, we have joy with that person in the kingdom of God, we strengthen our own testimonies, and much more.
--We can love people and serve them and show them by our lives that the gospel is a glorious thing.
--Through friendship and kindness we can lead others in the right way.
--We are promised the blessings of Heaven as we open our mouths that people and places, and opportunities will come our way if we act in faith.

Today's lesson was "The Shepherds of the Flock" by Sister Taggart.
--We learned how doing the simple things we've been asked to do by our church leaders helps us improve our lives.
--We all can strive to focus on the Atonement, read the scriptures, pray daily, do kind acts of charity, pay tithes and offerings, and attend our church meetings.
--When we do these things we are greatly blessed by: the windows of Heaven being opened, health and strength increased, personal revelation, remembering our great blessings, and wisdom and treasures of knowledge.
--President Kimball said, "The membership of the Church will always be safe if they follow closley the instructions and admonitions and the leadership of the authorities of the Church."
--We need to pray for our leaders, but also sustain them by supporting them and doing our part as we serve in the church.

We had a wonderful lesson by Sister Kathy Shaw on improving the lives of every sister. There are so many things on our plates as women of faith. We have a lot to balance in our lives: family, work, church responsibilities, temple attendance, visiting teaching, personal growth. Sometimes we want to do better, but don't know how to begin. President Porter encouraged us to improve our sacrament meeting attendance 1%. Sister Shaw wanted each of us to improve our personal life as a sister 1% whether that be visiting teaching, temple attendance, or just reaching out in friendship to another. We can all increase our circle of friends by one. Have a wonderful holiday season!

Weekly Relief Society Update

--Today’s Lesson by Sister Shaw
-- Remember to get out early and do your visiting teaching early this month & report to your supervisor .
--The ward Christmas Party will be December 14th at 6:30 p.m. at the Stake Center. There will be dinner, a program, and a special visitor for the kids. Please bring nonperishable items to donate to the Utah food bank.
--On December 16th at the Stake center is a Sing Along 7 p.m.
--There will be an angel tree set up for those who would like to share in the Christmas spirit for those in need. The items must be returned to Relief Society by Dec. 19th .
--Sister Becky Pehrson is home and recovering from surgery. She would appreciate phone calls and visits to keep in touch.
--Sister Whitney Preece has brought her baby May home from the hospital. She is doing well and her parents are thrilled to have her home.
--Please remember to pray for all the sisters in the ward and let us know if anyone has needs for the holidays or others we could help address.
--President Porter at Stake Conference challenged all of us to bear our testimonies in sacrament meeting sometime between now and next May. He also encouraged us to set & keep the goal of how many times we will attend the temple in 2008.

We enjoyed hearing the words of Elder Richard G. Hinckley & President Porter here are some comments and challenges they gave to us:
--Elder Hinckley encouraged us to stay out of consumer debt and buy a modest home with a reasonable mortgage.
--He also encouraged us to exercize forgiveness to any that have wronged us and as we do this our hearts can begin to heal.
--He also encouraged us to pay our tithing and this would be a protection in our lives.
--President Porter gave us several challenges to meet between now and the next conference:
1) Each person to bear your testimony in SACRAMENT meeting between now and next Stake conference.
2) Bear your testimony to one person not of our faith or not attending church between now and the next Stake Conference.
3) Set a goal of the number of times you will attend the temple in 2008 and keep it!
--Pres. Porter said if you are not happy with your life right now we have all kinds of tools given to us to help us i.e. atonement, bishops, scriptures, prayer, and faith.

Lesson November 25th Dallin H. Oaks "Good, Better, Best"
Presented by Sister Debbie Mills
This was a wonerful lesson on, sometimes we do good things, but maybe there is a better way or even a best way. Just because something is good in not a sufficient reason to doing it.
--We may have to forgo some good things in order to choose others that are better or best because they develop faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and strengthen our families.
--Seek ye out of the BEST books. There are many books that are intertaining and good but our time could be BEST spent on books that inspire us or improve our spirituality.
--The home is the BEST place. Finding the BEST way to help our families become strong, loving. Dinners together, projects together, laughing together, being together, talking together.
--Sometimes more is not always the BEST. Simplify!

VT thought brought out in the lesson: " To our hundreds of thousands of home teachers and visiting teachers, I suggest that it is GOOD to visit our assigned families; it is BETTER to have a brief visit in which we teach doctrine and principle; and it is BEST of all to make a difference in the lives of some of those we visit. That same challenge applies to the many meetings we hold- good to hold a meeting, better to teach a principle, but best to actually improve lives as a result of the meeting."

Sister Summers gave a beautiful lesson titled "Revelation: a Continuous Melody and a Thunderous Appeal."
Some important points that were brought out were these.
--We are blessed to know that God still speaks to a prophet today. The windows of Heaven are not closed each of us can receive answers to our prayers.
--Sometimes we receive revelations that are spectacular, but most come as the sweet impressions into our minds and hearts.
--By following those impressions we receive great blessings into our lives.
--How sincere have you prayed for that revelation- do we pray considering the Lord's will to be superior to our own knowledge and desires- do we seek peace in following the omniscience of the Lord. We should all follow the Savior's example in this thing.

Relief Society Update Nov. 28th

--Today’s Lesson—SWK #22 “Revelation” by Rosie Summers.
--The ward Christmas Party will be December 14th at 6:30 p.m. at the Stake Center. There will be dinner, a program, and a special visitor for the kids. Please bring nonperishable items to donate to the Utah food bank. Also sign up to help bring food for the dinner that night. Contact Sister Gertsch if you want to help.
--Stake Conference will be December 1st & 2nd. Adult session Sat. 7pm and main session Sunday at 10 a.m. The 6400 building will be available for extra seating. Elder Richard G. Hinckley will be our visiting authority.
--There will be an angel tree set up for those who would like to share in the Christmas spirit for those in need. You may pick one off and bring the donations.
--Lisa Broadhead is going to be a Grandma-yipee.
--We have a mystery jelly pan left over from the funeral see Kathy to reclaim it .

Relief Society Lesson
Presented by: Lydia Taggart

Pres. Kimball said " He was no common man...I think of all of the persecutions and the suffering that he went through. I think of all the revelations that came from heaven to him which he gave to us. And the I gain a new strength again"
--Like Joseph Smith, how can we become an instrument in Gods hands?
--Each one of us has a calling. We are called to certain positons when we are needed. Just as Joseph, many things were prepared first, then it was time for his calling.
--Pray until something happends.
--We too can recieve answers to prayer.
The two most important events started with a prayer...the Atonment and the First Vision.
--As mothers we should be in tune to our children so that when important events happen in their lives we know. When they are touched by the spirit we can see it in them. Just as Joseph's mother knew.

Relief Society Announcements for November 11th

--Donna Dickinson is home and doing much better.
--Stacey Lowe is home after a stay in the hospital for Pneumonia
--Thanks to everyone who helped and gave service.

--Lindsey Nieves is going to have a GIRL!

--Tuesday Nov. 13th Ward Temple Night 7:oo session. See you there.

--Thursday Nov. 15th blood drive at our building. Not many participated last time. Out of the whole Stake only a few pints were collected. Please make it worth their while to come.

--Saturday Nov. 17th 4 Couples are need for Sealings at the Temple, 2:00. Call brother Grier of the 23rd Ward if you plan on attending.

--Sister Eden is sending items for the holidays to a troop in Iraq if anyone can donate toiletries,hard candy, books, money for shipping or anything light weight. Please call her. Items will be shipped November 14th.

--We are collecting colored pencils for the ward stockpile. New or used. Contact Amber Jorgensen.

--The Elementry School collects plastic bags to earn money. Donate to a primary child or call Steph Sitze.

--Amber Jorgensen also has a recycling newspaper route. Call her for pick-up.

-- Saturday Dec. 1st 7:00 Adult meeting for Stake Conference.

--Sunday Dec. 2nd 10:00 General Stake Conference Meeting. The 6400building will be set-up
for broadcast. For over flow and parking and to watch. If this works better for you and your family, GREAT.

--Friday Dec. 14th Ward Dinner. This will be held at the Stake Center at 6:30. We will have dinner and intertainment. A Food Bank donation box will be placed in the cultural hall the evening of the Christmas Party. Donations will be accepted.

--We will be having an Angel Tree for some needs in our ward for Christmas. Please make plans for this in your Christmas budget. Thanks for your support.

Lesson- November 4th

We had President Porter come and speak in a joint Relief Society/Priesthood meeting. He encouraged all of the ward to focus on three areas to improve the ward.
1) Increase sacrament meeting attendance by 1%
2) Help one unordained priesthood holder become a priesthood holder for his family.
3) Improve the quality and quantity of our home and visiting teaching.
He also encouraged us to think of ways we could improve ourselves, our families, and our wards and commit to do these things.

We want to thank Debbie Mills for a wonderful lesson about the lessons from the Book of Mormon on conversions to the gospel. One of the highlights of the lesson was the class sharing insights on how reading the scriptures can effect the testimonies of our families. Also class members commented on how we can help our children recognize the Spirit by asking them how they feel as they seek guidance and make important decisions in their lives.
